I don’t normally celebrate Halloween but I will later tonight. I’ll be wearing a brown checkered 1970’s disco outfit. I didn’t shave for a week so I can have a beard to go along with it. And normally, I’m not this pumped to go out for Halloween but I am today. I just enjoy dancing bachata…I love the music and the dance. Speaking of which, I did go out last night for another Halloween latin night locally and it was ok. It certainly was better than last week but it’s still kinda whack. The place, that is. I just can’t stand when people act all clique-ish around here, like you have to be part of their crowd to feel accepted.
Well, I don’t feel the need to be a part of their group so I don’t try to go over to “their side.” There’s another girl who goes there and I feel we are similar because she doesn’t sit over where they are. I can tell it makes her feel a bit uncomfortable cause she feels different from the rest of them but I respect that she refuses to go there. And she’s cool enough to dance with me any time I ask.
Dudes be thirsting real bad in that place, it’s disgusting. I really hate how I have to run up to a certain girl to ask her to dance, just to try to beat someone else to it because if I’m not quick enough, I lose the opportunity. Also, the DJ only plays bachata 3-4 times in a row and once I lose my chance, that’s it, he goes back to salsa or something else. I don’t have anything against salsa, in fact, I’m pretty decent at it, it’s just that I prefer a slower dance nowadays and I enjoy dancing the footwork in bachata more. The music (salsa) doesn’t appeal to me as much either, at least not anymore.
Lastly, people start leaving as early as midnight and the place closes at 2 AM. And when people start leaving, there’s fewer girls available to dance. Tonight I stayed later than usual and still got a couple more dances in, but I just didn’t feel like staying anymore so I left. The DJ messed up the vibe when he started playing that one hip hop song after the “costume contest.”
Now that my little rant is over, I can move on to better things. This weekend, I’ll be in good ol’ NYC for some bachata dancing til 12:45 am (last train leaves at 1:22 am). I have a good over 3 hours of dancing which is nice. Then I get to go to workshops all day on Saturday and Sunday plus dancing afterwards for both days. I’m gonna be smothered in bachata lessons and as much dancing as I desire. It’s going to be intense and a lot of fun, I’ve been looking forward to this for a while. And I’m gonna miss it when I leave for bootcamp 9 days after.
But I’m going to make the most of the days I have left. I have to. I’m ready for many more breakthroughs this weekend.
